Minority Business Enterprise Certification
Businesses that are WBE certified can take advantage of special government programs, including increased access to government contracting opportunities that can help them grow their business quicker.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria for certification:
- Business must be at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled on a daily basis by one or more American citizens of the following ethnic minority classifications: African American, Asian-Pacific American, Asian-Indian American, Hispanic American, and/or Native American
- Applicant(s) must be able to prove the following ethnicity percentage: 25% minimum
- Applicant(s) must be U.S. Citizens
- Applicant(s) must work at the applicant firm full-time with no conflicting outside employment or ownership
- Business is a for-profit enterprise
- Business is physically located in the U.S. or its trust territories.
- Business must be legally organized and in good standing to do business
- Applicant(s) must be active in management and daily business operations
- Business cannot be owned by an irrevocable trust
What is a minority group member?
For the purposes of NMSDC’s program, a minority group member is an individual who is a U.S. citizen with at least 25% of the following: Asian-Indian, Asian-Pacific, Black, Hispanic and Native American. A U.S. citizen whose origins are from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand, Samoa, Guam, the US territories of the Pacific or Northern Marianas. A U.S. citizen who is out of African decent, true-born Hispanic heritage, from any of the Spanish speaking areas of the following regions: Mexico, Central America, South America, Caribbean Basin, Brazilians (Afro-Brazilian, Indigenous/Indian only) shall be listed under Hispanic designation for review and certification purposes. A person who is an American Indian, Eskimo, Aleut or native Hawaiian, and regarded as such by the community of which the person claims to be a part of. Native Americans must be documented members of a North American tribe, band or otherwise organized group of native people who are indigenous to the continental United States and proof can be provided through Native American Blood Degree Certificate (i.e. tribal registry letter, tribal roll registry number).
